Learning coordinates of a location pointed in an operation is called "Point Selection" in Netcad. Statements in the Documents such as Point Selection, Point Showing, Getting Coordinates are often used in the same meaning. Select Point operation is one of the most used operations. Lines are drawn by selecting sequential points whereas Symbols are drawn by selecting points. A shading area is shaded by selecting its mid-point and placing text to the selected point. When Select Point option is enabled, "Point Selection Tools" tab in the Ribbon Menus become activated. Selection Tools are generated in the Ribbon Menu. You may also choose points desired directly from the screen. If appropriate, the Ribbon Menu will not be displayed and operations (for example drawing a line) will continue.
Point Capture Tools
If you want to get the endpoint of the line as shown in the figure, capture options are created to exactly pick the endpoint of the line. In the example given, if you enable the 'last point' option, Netcad will automatically capture the endpoint. Similarly, you want to get the midpoint of a line but how will you measure? What you need to do is to enable the midpoint option and pick anywhere on the line.
Observe that the symbol of the cursor differs based on the Capture Mode chosen. You can change Capture Modes using the ribbon menu. Keyboard shortcuts are also available. Ribbon menu group options should be used for shortcuts and other options.
Capture Modes are useful for many needs such as capturing mid-points. But what if you want to find the line perpendicular to the last location selected? Coordinate Calculator is used for solving such operations.
Select "Draw Perpendicular" in Coordinate Calculator. Show the line to draw perpendicular and complete the operation.
