 Create Triangle

Triangulation operation is the one and most used of the methods to create a terrain model from elevated random points. Triangulation, in a sense, means the determination of between which points the elevation interpolation will be made. The elevation changes over the edges of the triangle are assumed to be linear. Triangulation creates equally angled triangles with equal side lengths as possible.

Analyse TrianglesThere is information regarding the number of points used in the creation of triangle, minimum and maximum elevation information (Z), average side length together with the shortest and the longest triangle side that is obtained from the selected points. Side lengths are calculated according to the selected points when Analyse Triangles is clicked. Minimum and maximum side lengths between the points to be taken into consideration within modeling can be determined by means of these values.
Filtre

Minimum and Maximum Z value lines are activated and value entry is ensured to consider the points, that are selected for modeling between elevations. Model is created from the points that are between these elevations.

With the same logic, side lengths of the triangle that should be created after modeling can be limited by activating the Longest and Shortest Triangle Side lines. Triangles within the longest and shortest triangle side values will be saved to TRIANGLE_MODEL layer, triangles outside these values will be saved to DISTORTED_TRIANGLE layer.

Eliminate Short Triangles; one of the points, of which the elevation difference is smaller than the value entered in the maximum elevation difference line and closer to the Shortest Triangle Side value, will not be included in triangulation. The elevation difference entered and points that may create a triangle under shortest triangle side are saved to DELETED_POINTS layer. These points are not taken into consideration in triangulation.

Select

If any other details are needed to be taken into consideration in modeling (fault line, periphery, hole), they need to be selected.

Fault line; is used to select the lines that are created after slope scans.

Outer boundary; area boundary desired to create the model,

Holes; are used to select the unwanted areas that triangle surfaces will not be created in the middle of the model,

Create Boundary; is the boundary that is determined from the outermost points selected for model. Proximity criteria; determines the longest distance between boundary line points. The bigger this value, the closer the result is to convex.

Limit preview is obtained by pressing the Preview button after the value entered into proximity criteria value line.

  • Triangulation should be made either for the whole project by deleting all triangles or keeping the current triangles and only triangulating the changed parts if changes are made such as addition, deletion on the points used in triangulation.
  • After drawing a curve, triangles can be deleted or their visibility may be set to off since there will not be any need.
  • It is enough to carry out triangulation once for any point cluster. It is recommended that distorted triangles within the project (DISTORTED TRIANGLE layer) are deleted since it could affect contour lines and calculations to be made in the model (operations such as cross sections,
